Aquaculture in a closed recirculation system.

Aquaculture

RAS = recirculating
aquaculture system

Clean water is uncompromisingly essential for animal welfare, especially for zander.

The biological cleaning in a closed recirculation system is carried out, as in nature, by bacteria. It ensures that the nutrients introduced via the feed are constantly broken down. Otherwise the water would become over-fertilized and would not be a healthy habitat for many fish. Fish use their gills to release toxins. They need clean water, water that is significantly lower in concentrated nutrients than in the blood of the fish. Clean water is an indispensable prerequisite for animal welfare in aquaculture.

The use of any chemicals, medicines or antibiotics endangers the bacteria and is therefore out of the question for us.

Many essential substances (such as minerals) are introduced via the feed. However, essential components are nitrogen and carbon. As they grow, microorganisms consume carbon, but the focus is on nitrogen. Through the biochemical processes of nitrification and denitrification, certain bacteria are able to completely remove nitrogen from the water. The art lies in creating an appropriate environment for these specific bacteria. By creating "additional living space" on growth bodies and by providing them with food and oxygen, the number of "good" bacteria increases enormously. Constant conditions are important in order to guarantee permanent bacterial growth and their survival. The technology serves to support natural processes and to operate them faster and more effectively than in nature. We boost nature.

In our processing of wastewater we improve the water quality in the creek, specifically in the Vennebach.

The cleaned water is pumped back into the fish tanks. The concentration of ammonium, nitrite and nitrate in particular is kept at a low level by the bacteria. Water that leaves the plant permanently is treated again in another similar biological treatment and then filtered. With this last step, we once again direct better treated water, drinking water quality, back into the natural cycle.
