The production of food of any kind consumes resources. Meat or fish consumed in the omnivorous or vegetarian diet is associated with higher consumption and an ecological footprint.

Fish is the healthier alternative to meat. Closed aquaculture systems (CAS) or recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), are, overall, more ecological, more sustainable and less harmful to the environment than fishing or open aquaculture systems in nature.


The most sustainable production of animal protien is proven to be fish. Our production in Germany in closed aquaculture facilities has no direct (or low impact) on the environment.


Free from drugs, microplastics and heavy metals, eating fish is healthy thanks to its unsaturated fatty acids and easily digestible protein.

Reuse of up to 98% of the water in the recirculation system, return of absolutely unpolluted water to the natural water cycle.

Fish is considered to be the record-breaking animal species in terms of food conversion, recycling of slaughterhouse waste and excreta as raw materials.


Delivery to the consumer is within a few hours or within days. The product travels short distances, without long cold chains, or being frozen.

Conserve marine resources, promote overfishing of non-endangered fish.

Zander is not an endangered species. It is recommended by the WWF as a sustainable fish for a recirculation system.

We at KAISERZANDER© and glammeier+john aquakultur have also designed and optimized the closed recirculation system according to technical and ecological parameters.

For example, all machines, pumps and blowers are optimally designed and equipped with frequency converters in order to operate the devices in the optimal range and only consume the energy that is actually required.

The required energy is generated from renewable energy sources (100%). In the cold months, the necessary heat is through a combined heat and power and heat recovery sources. Our photovoltaic and wind energy systems generate more electricity than we consume ourselves.

Our biological water treatment technology saves water. It is very efficient compared to conventional closed aquaculture systems. In principle, all steps of water treatment are based on simple biological and physical processes that we optimize with technology. As a result, we massively reduce our water consumption and generate the cleanest processed wastewater. There is never any danger to the environment., The water in which the fish are kept is more than environmentally compatible for optimal animal welfare. Overall, we use less than 10% the amount of water per kilogram of fish that is used in the production of beef. The used water is finally returned to the global water cycle and is not lost.

Note: Protein retention is a measure of how much animal feed protein is produced per unit of protein feed fed. The feed conversion ratio indicates how many kilograms of feed are required to increase the body weight of the animal by one kilogram

Due to the closed system, there are no heavy metals, plastic or other hazardous substances in use. It is not in the water, or in the fish. In addition, we do not use any hormones, ethoxyquin, antibiotics or antiparasitics when rearing the fish.

Zander are a sensitive species. Their environment – in terms of water quality, light and handling avoid stress to the fish.Among other things, handling is automated without a human ever having to touch the animals by hand.

The automated feeding system does not stress the fish and only administers the amount of food that is really necessary.

In its fish guide, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) rates zander from closed Aquaculture (compared to wild catch) as sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Together with the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), we are involved in setting aquaculture standards for zander and are striving for certification as one of the first recirculation systems worldwide.

All in all, our fish at KAISERZANDER© are completely climate-neutral AND absolutely pure.
